See It – Feel It – Trust It

We rented the movie “Seven Days in Utopia” starring Robert Duvall and Lucas Black. I am no big into golf, but it seemed like a nice relaxing ‘feel good’ kind of movie and it was.

I’m not doing a movie review here, but mainly wanted to share a quote that came from the movie. As Robert Duvall, “Uncle Johnny,” mentored and coached this young Texas golfer, he wrote these initials on the golf ball S-F-T.  This was powerful. It is what we teach our coaching clients, but Uncle Johnny made it so simple.

See It: Visualize the shot.

Create the image in your mind of what you desire. What outcome is it that you want? See it in your mind first -- paint the picture.

Feel It: Experience the feeling of making the shot.

Imagine it in your mind, but feel it in your being. Get in touch with the emotional aspect of the outcome. Feel the feeling of your desire being true in the moment. Experience yourself achieving the outcome by imagining it and then accepting it as true.

Trust It: Know that you are and have all you need to make it happen.

This is more than just positive thinking and affirmations. This is “trust” at it’s deepest level. It is about recognizing that everything that happens is for a reason. Trusting that life is happening FOR you and not TO you. The Universe, God, Higher Power, or whatever name you give to it or Him is present and prepared to make your desire a current reality.

There is one more piece to this life strategy taught by Uncle Johnny through a simple golf lesson that wasn’t shared in the movie. It is one that I have had to constantly remind myself over the past few years in order to continue moving forward in faith.

Look for evidence of truth vs. looking for evidence of failure.

I have had several people tell me that they have tried the S - F - T method and that they are consistently disappointed. It’s natural for people to be disappointed when they attempt to create a specific outcome for a specific situation, but when you are focused on the bigger picture - a joyful and abundant life - it is much easier to find evidence of your creative success.

Go back and assess what your truly joyful and abundant life looks like and feels like. Give gratitude daily, trust that when you are in alignment with what you truly believe and follow your instincts, you are creating the life you desire. Trust your inner whisper.

See it -- Feel it -- Trust it

Here is a quick video of David Cook, author of Golf's Sacred Journey, shares about the inspiration behind the story and discusses the movie based on the book, Seven Days in Utopia.
