Leadership is Influence

Written on September 25, 2012 at 11:18 am

I was watching the news this morning as the anchors were discussing the various politicians and past presidents who had the keen ability to “influence” world leaders and thereby shape foreign policy.

As I listened, it occurred to me that the key to any type of leadership is the ability to influence others. Political or otherwise.

It also occurred to me that some people have a natural ability to influence while others have to work harder at it.

Either way, influence is necessary in positions of leadership and respect is the key.

No matter your political affiliation or allegiance, I …

Rave Reviews for The Boom Headset

Written on September 24, 2012 at 7:35 am

I have been using some version of theBoom headset for several years. I have had theBoom O, theBoom V4, and most recently, theBoom E.

Because of the noise canceling feature, theBoom allows me to talk on the phone in a noisy room, at the airport, in my car, with dogs barking in the background (and yes, while taking a pause for the cause) without the party on the other end of line being able to hear any background noise.

Up until recently they only offered corded versions. Now they offer a cordless version of theBoom that uses bluetooth technology called …

Releasing Mooring Lines & Setting Sail

Written on September 23, 2012 at 10:19 am

Choosing to launch our own coaching business after being affiliated for over 15 years with one of the largest real estate franchises in North America, I have been approached by countless people who ask me questions about what it has been like to branch out.

The truth - Leaving a large company that we had been a part of for so long was not an easy decision. We had friends there (still do). We had history there. And we had given a great deal of time, energy, and money to forward the cause, both personally and professionally. And no doubt …

My Love Hate Relationship with Growth and Expansion

Written on September 19, 2012 at 3:09 pm

We have been going through some major growing pains this year and it is every bit as painful as it is exciting.

Helping other people grow and expand is my job and yet, I still struggle with it myself sometimes. What I am finding is that I love the creative and visionary side of expansion and I absolutely despise the tactical and operational side of it. I bask in the beginning phase and the finished product and still the in-between parts feel like walking in quick sand.

Chris on the other hand likes the “figuring it all out” part. …

Are you Brave Enough to Tell Clients Why You Love Your Job?

Written on September 17, 2012 at 1:55 pm

Do you love your job? No, I mean it. Don't just blow me off. I'm actually asking.

Do you REALLY love being a REALTOR? Do you love helping people buy and sell homes?

Think about it for a minute; I'd like a truly honest answer.

Do you love the real estate business?

It's okay if you don't. There's no judgment here and I'm not asking you to respond if you don't think you really do. Maybe you're getting by nicely: hell, maybe you're doing exceptionally well with real estate.

But you don't really love …

5 Lessons from the Early Years in Real Estate

Written on September 6, 2012 at 9:00 am

It’s amazing how time really does fly. I was just talking with a client who asked me how long I have been in real estate. It’s pretty easy for me to recall since I was pregnant with my son when I first started. “21 years,” I said. Then it hit me...holy cow where did the time go.

And then yesterday I was going though a huge stack of business cards that had been not-so-neatly packed away for the move when a blast from the past appeared before my very eyes, validating my previous conversation of yes, 21 years in real …
