Secret #1 of Social Media:

It's Intimate & Personal

At its core, the most powerful (and magical) muscle of Social Media is the way in which it allows people to get to know you and feel as if they have a bond or relationship with you. That's right; to become your friend. And that's what you wish, correct?

It's hard to put my finger on it exactly, and I know it seems a bit strange, but when I “Like” or “Follow” a well-known author, business leader, musician or “star,” for some bizarre reason, seeing their regular postings …

3 Myths About Specializing

Written on June 24, 2013 at 11:57 am

by Nikki Buckelew

We all know that when you narrow your focus you increase your results. So why is it that so many agents resist specialization?

Myth #1:  I will lose other opportunities.

Reality: When you create a specialty, you elevate yourself and increase your overall credibility. Just as cardiac surgeons are still looked upon as capable general physicians, they are also seen as superior in their field. People understand that not only could they do a heart bypass, they can also put 4 stitches in your kid’s knee.

Not only will the people in your sphere see you in …

Simple System for Getting Meaningful Testimonials

Written on March 16, 2013 at 1:42 pm

It is so much better for people to hear from a third party how great you are instead of you trying to toot your own horn!

To get meaningful testimonials from your clients, stop asking for testimonials and start asking for feedback! Here’s exactly what you need to do, step by step.

Step 1. Ask clients for feedback.

As a former radio manager and magazine editor in two previous lives, it pains me a bit to share a secret with you, but here goes: while traditional media like broadcast and print can be useful advertising mechanisms, they are inherently flawed. Why? Because of their inability to intuitively ascertain the probability of whether or not an individual may be interested in your service or property.

My Facebook Dilemma – 5 Things I Have Learned

Written on January 16, 2013 at 2:41 pm

Having nearly 5000 friends on Facebook is crazy.

And to think that all 4853 people were actually “friends” is delusional at best.

Back when Facebook first came on the scene, it was so cool to have someone request to be my “friend.” Maybe it is my high “I” behavior style that loved the idea of someone wanting to connect with me. Being on the road teaching to large audiences across the country for a couple of years certainly helped …

People with SoulFire Never Retire

Written on December 14, 2012 at 12:20 pm

When I say I will never retire people just look at me and laugh.

Why would you want to work forever, they ask? Well, I guess because I don't see work as a chore or something I dread. I see work as my "life's work" and not work for the sake of making a paycheck.

I call it SoulFire.

It is doing something that I love, with people I love, for people I love.

Of course not every day is glorious and easy. And I certainly am not wearing rose colored glasses. The fact is, it's about perpective. Each …

“If you want to build a platform, it’s time to get your passion back. Push one another and yourself to deliver great products that you are delighted -- yes, delighted!-- to offer. If you don’t then your attempt to build a platform is doomed to failure.” Michael Hyatt

In previous blogs, we have talked about building a Personal Platform and a Professional Platform as two key and high priority elements in the overall platform creation for REALTORS®.

As promised, this post is dedicated to Public Platform creation, but before we get too far into the conversation, I must share something …

Building a Personal Platform for Your Real Estate Niche

Written on November 8, 2012 at 8:00 am

Creating a speciality niche in your real estate practice can be both exciting and exhausting. Most of the time it is exciting because the energy around a specific interest or passion can serve to stoke the fire when in some cases it was about to be otherwise snuffed out.

On the flip side, if the fire hand’t been burning hot for a while, it usually also means that funds are low, systems have been neglected, and once strong connections are now questionable.

Never fear! Your new passion and SoulFire energy will shine through and spark the interest of those …
