Favorite Childhood 4th of July Memories

Published on July 4, 2012

The 4th of July in a small town was always a community affair and tons of fun for kids of all ages.  I am sure that as you look back, you too have some amazing memories of this summertime holiday.

I am sharing my top 5 childhood favorites here & would love for you to share yours with us on our Facebook fanpage or in the comments section below!

Nikki’s Top 5:

  • Homemade banana ice cream (made by Papa Clinton)
  • The Geary parade down main street
  • Black cats, sparklers, and those snakes that leave burn marks on the sidewalk
  • Putting poppers in my dad’s cigarettes (oh that made him mad!)
  • Fireworks after dark (while sitting on the pickup tailgate) presented by the Geary Fire Department

I also remember as a kid that we always drew the American Flag, so in honor of this 4th of July holiday, I crafted my adult version of our grand banner.

Happy Independence Day!
