I Dare You to Be Different

Published on May 20, 2013

Are you wearing a badge of honor that says “I’m so busy that I can’t even stop to eat or pee?”

You may laugh, but if I had a quarter for every time a Realtor said some variation of that phrase outloud, I could retire comfortably. Something happens when people get into real estate. It is as if people adopt the idea that running mach 3 with their hair on fire is a good thing - like it’s required...or somehow expected.

We did it too. Chris and I both bought into the idea that busy meant successful - that in order to “make it” in real estate we had to sell our souls.

What would happen if you dared to be different?

I know. You look around your office and the agents who seem to be doing the most business are frantically running around putting out fires and telling stories of drama and chaos. Of course they do - that is what they were taught success looked like too. Once you have started spinning out of control like a Tasmanian devil it is hard to stop.

It is possible.

When we made the decision to get our lives back, it wasn’t an easy one. For a while, we felt lazy and a bit guilty to tell the truth. After all, it shouldn’t be that easy to make six figures in real estate, right? And you “should” have to work weekends and take calls during dinner, right? That’s what we were taught anyway.

It was as if by not working weekends or evenings it was cheating somehow. Was someone going to turn us in to the real estate police for investigation? No. And they won’t report you either.

Permission granted.

This is your official permission to be different. Break the rules. Go against the grain. Be a rebel. You now have permission to have fun selling real estate without killing yourself, depriving your family, or taking a cut in pay.

Yes, you can.

It has been done and it will be done again. There are multitudes of agents out there who are living amazing lives without all the real estate drama. You just have to look for them because they aren’t nearly as noisy as the ones running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Work smarter, not harder.

The Law of Least Effort.

Take the path of least resistance.

What would life look like if you were making more money not by working harder, but by working less?

Can you imagine it?

I dare you - Be different.

If you are up for the challenge, we can show you how.  Share with us on the blog if you are ready to take the challenge of being different and if so, what will you do differently?
