Kahlil Gibran, Chris Brogan, Nikki Buckelew and You: Rebels with a Cause

The Beauty of a Soulful, Real Estate Rebellion

Do you have a little rebel in ya? What about a Rebel Yell aching to scream forth?

It's funny how similar thoughts and philosophies can jump out at you in surprising succession. Last night, I read a portion of Kahlil Gibran's book “Spirits Rebellious” in which a character beseeches a village of peasants to rebel against the tyrants who have forced them into serfdom.

Then – only about 12 hours later – I received a weekly email newsletter from business relationship and Internet marketing guru Chris Brogan with the title “How Do …

The SoulFire of Nelson Mandela

Written on December 18, 2013 at 2:45 pm

nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela had it.

He had SoulFire.

It's hard to imagine any global figure who better embodied the quality we know as "SoulFire."

You know that I talk and write about SoulFire agents and encourage you to grow this part of yourself that can zoom a real estate business to greater heights and your personal life to unimagined peace.

But the death of the man they call "Mandiba" in South Africa caused me to pause and revel in the SoulFire that he took to an entirely different level.

Think about this and really put yourself in his shoes.

South Africa …

I Dare You to Be Different

Written on May 20, 2013 at 5:46 pm

Are you wearing a badge of honor that says “I’m so busy that I can’t even stop to eat or pee?”

You may laugh, but if I had a quarter for every time a Realtor said some variation of that phrase outloud, I could retire comfortably. Something happens when people get into real estate. It is as if people adopt the idea that running mach 3 with their hair on fire is a good thing - like it’s required...or somehow expected.

We did it too. Chris and I both bought into the idea that busy meant successful - that …

2013 is the Year to Tap Into Your SoulFire

Written on December 30, 2012 at 10:38 am

I’m curious...

Do you wake up each day with fire in your belly?

Is your Monday morning full of energy and excitement about the week ahead?

Are you looking at 2013 with a sense of anticipation and passion?

I sure hope so. I want that for you SO much.

When I look in the rearview mirror I can see the many phases of my life including roles I’ve held, careers experimented with, and people I have worked alongside. It is easy to spot the times where I had SoulFire lighting me up and times when my spark had been …

Howard Brinton – His SoulFire Lives On

Written on December 26, 2012 at 2:11 pm

If you have been in real estate for any time at all, you have heard of and undoubtedly been influenced by Howard Brinton. The founder of Star Power Systems, Howard touched many lives along his path and served as a mentor to thousands. He is a person who by just watching him, you knew he had SoulFire!

His physical presence will be missed.

Although we were not personally in Howard’s “inner circle,” his influence on our real estate careers was far from insignificant. Most all of our systems, tools, and learning can be traced back to his teachings and …

Change Your Posture to Change Your Outcome

“Don't fake it till you make it. Fake it till you become it.” - Amy Cuddy

I watched a TED Talk today given by Amy Cuddy, a social psychologist, professor and researcher at the Harvard Business School. She said exactly what I have instinctually known for a long time. "Our bodies change our minds."

Non-verbal cues (i.e. Body Language) is something we are all aware of and we use it each and every day to help us communicate with others and make decisions. But how many of us are aware from minute to minute that our own body language …

Measuring Happiness

Written on November 25, 2012 at 10:11 am

How happy are you? How happy are clients with your business? What about the people that work with you on your team or in your agency? Are you measuring their happiness?

Well, you probably should be, and here's why.

I was intrigued recently when I read a blog put together by Lisa Parrett, a client of mine in Indianapolis. Lisa's inspiration was a video from a 2010 TED conference, a presentation put together by Chip Conley, a well-known San Francisco hotelier.

Chip presents us with a concept known as GNH, short for Gross National Happiness. And, of course, that's a …

Real Estate Is My Business. Not my life.

Friends vs Job www.nikkiandchris.com

Because the NAR (National Association of Realtors) ad campaign telling people “We are Realtors. Real estate is our life” bugs the crap out of me,  I decided to do a little journaling in my online journal in hopes that it will make me feel a little better.

It did in fact help (as my journaling usually does) and then I wondered if maybe my thoughts could somehow contribute to others and decided to share it in my blog. It’s probably rough around the edges as a result, so ignore the grammar and read for content please.

Dear NAR Public Relations/Ad
